Our mission and how we're governed.
Mission
Training Industry Body exists to raise and protect professional standards across the training industry. We set published standards for training providers and trainers, run independent quality assurance against those standards, and back every certificate we issue with a verifiable record. We start with first aid training and intend to extend the same model to other subject areas over time.
We deliberately don't claim to be a regulator, and we don't claim powers we don't have. What we offer is a transparent, checkable standard that providers can choose to be measured against, and that anyone — an employer, an assessment organisation, a learner — can verify for themselves.
Governance
Training Industry Body is a Company Limited by Guarantee. It has no shareholders and distributes no profit to individuals; it is directed by its board of directors under its Articles of Association, which set out the company's objects, including the setting and maintenance of professional standards for the training industry.
Day-to-day operation of the scheme — provider approval, trainer registration, monitoring and sanctions — follows the process set out on our quality page, with the independent oversight described below.
Impartiality statement
Training Industry Body's founder also owns First Aid For All, a training provider that is or will be assessed under TIB's scheme, and Semseo Ltd, the company that builds and operates the software platform TIB's scheme runs on. We disclose this plainly because it is a real conflict of interest, and we manage it structurally rather than asking anyone to simply trust our intentions.
- ✓ All approval, monitoring and sanction decisions about First Aid For All, or about any other provider or trainer connected to a TIB officer, are made and recorded by an independent external quality assurer — a freelance assessor appointed by TIB who has no connection to the provider concerned — not by TIB's own officers.
- ✓ Those decisions and the reviews behind them are recorded separately from TIB's day-to-day management, so the record of what was decided, and why, stands independently of anyone with a conflict.
- ✓ Semseo Ltd is recorded as an external supplier to TIB, with its own agreement and evaluation, in the same way as any other supplier to the scheme.
- ✓ We are actively onboarding providers beyond First Aid For All, so that our registers reflect the industry rather than a single connected business.
