What we expect of providers and trainers.
These are the standards a training provider or trainer must meet to be approved or registered under our scheme. They apply equally to every applicant, whatever their connection to Training Industry Body — see our impartiality statement for how that's enforced.
Standards for approved providers
A training provider seeking approval must have, and maintain:
A quality assurance plan
A written plan for how the provider assures the quality of what it delivers, kept current and available to us.
A designated QA person
A named individual responsible for quality assurance, with the qualifications and experience the role requires.
A complaints procedure
A published route for learners and clients to raise a complaint, and for it to be resolved and recorded.
Appropriate insurance
Valid public liability and professional indemnity cover appropriate to the training delivered.
Fit-for-purpose equipment
Training equipment (manikins, AED trainers, dressings and consumables) that is current, maintained and adequate for the group size.
Course evaluation
A process for evaluating each course delivered, and for acting on what that evaluation shows.
Standards for registered trainers
A trainer seeking registration must hold, and keep current:
A current clinical credential
A current first aid qualification, or registration with a recognised clinical body, appropriate to what they teach.
A training/assessing qualification
A recognised qualification in training and assessing, so teaching and assessment skill is itself evidenced.
Annual performance assessment
A yearly review of the trainer's delivery, recorded on their trainer file.
Continuing professional development
An up-to-date CPD log demonstrating ongoing development relevant to their subject.
